Batali Patrons Get Cooking with New Meatless Monday Classes

April 16th, 2012

Chef Mario Batali at NYC's Eataly

Mario Batali is sharing his love of Meatless Mondays through a series of cooking classes. The long-time supporter of the movement has created three new culinary workshops at La Scuola di Eataly, the cooking school within his New York City food marketplace, Eataly. Each session will focus on the traditional produce of a different Italian region.
The Meatless Monday classes will be taught by Eataly’s own “vegetable butcher,” Alicia Walter and La Verdure Chef Kiah Lotus. The first session, already sold out, celebrates the distinct flavors of Italy’s Umbria region. Students will sample dishes highlighting fava beans, chard, lentils, truffles and more, complete with complementary wine pairings. There is still time to sign up for the May and June classes, which will look at traditional Roman and Sicilian fare.
Mario Batali is bringing these classes to his patrons to help spread the healthy message of Meatless Monday. The acclaimed chef goes meatless each week with his own family and even celebrated his 53rd birthday with a veggie-focused meal! You can learn more about his family’s favorite healthy, meatless dishes by picking up Mario’s latest cookbook, Molto Batali.
