LA’s MM Resolution Sparks Media Frenzy

December 3rd, 2012

On Friday, October 24th, Los Angeles became the largest city in the U.S. to sign a Meatless Monday resolution. The official declaration, unanimously approved by LA’s City Council, supports the community’s commitment to healthier, more environmentally sustainable options.

Once the resolution passed, media outlets around the country responded, sharing Meatless Monday’s message to their diverse audiences. Major news outlets like TIME, CBS, USA Today, Consumer Affairs and the UK’s Daily Mail shared the story. Even Bill O’Reilly and the pundits at FOX weighed in!

The resolution received full coverage over at the LA Times, with a special bulletin and articles in both the food and opinion sections. Readers wrote in to the paper as well, generating discussion about the campaign and government’s role in supporting health.

Meatless Monday even received a bit of a laugh! Both Jay Leno and Jimmy Kimmel joked about going meatless on their late-night talk shows, bringing the campaign to millions of American living rooms.

We at Meatless Monday are very excited to have the support of LA’s City Council! Hopefully their resolution will help citizens incorporate healthy, environmentally friendly choices into their weekly routine. In addition, the city’s approval and resulting press surrounding the campaign makes this the perfect time for local restaurants and businesses to join the movement by offering delicious Meatless Monday meals and promotions.
