Oldways Talks Traditional Cooking with Help of MM

Meatless Monday was in attendance for the Oldways Supermarket Dietician Symposium, a three-day event bringing together “the nation’s leading supermarket dieticians… to discuss ways to truly improve public health through effective consumer communication.”

Established in 1990, Oldways is a non-profit organization that looks to revive traditional styles of cooking and eating in order to improve well-being. The symposium, which took place from February 29th to March 3rd in Savannah, Georgia, covered such topics as health marketing strategies, the promotion of plant-based diets and the challenges of modern food labeling. Meatless Monday President Peggy Neu spoke to the group of grocers, registered dieticians and other specialists about how Monday can be used for effective health promotion.
Supermarkets across the U.S. are discovering that Monday can indeed be an effective prompt in helping customers make healthy choices. Meatless Monday reminders are announced at chains like Stop & Shop, while some Whole Foods locations offer special Monday meals and meatless cooking classes. Monday promotions are also prominent at Piggly Wiggly, where store pharmacies are starting the week with reminders to eat healthy.
