Sodexo Further Expands the Movement

April 18th, 2011

After a successful start to Meatless Mondays at Sodexo, the institutional feeder plans to introduce new clients to the movement! Sodexo first launched the campaign in over 900 hospitals nationwide. Starting this week, Meatless Monday will also be offered to over 2,000 Sodexo corporate and government clients, including Toyota, Northern Trust Bank and the U.S. Department of the Interior. Will Nicklas, Corporate Manager for Corporate Services at Toyota Motor Sales, Inc. said Sodexo’s Meatless Monday campaign works well with the health and environmental goals that his company strives for:

“Providing an opportunity for eating meatless one day a week is a simple way for us to address the dietary concerns of our customers and in part advance our own environmental objectives. Meatless Monday has been successful here primarily because Sodexo helps our customers understand that it is not all about becoming vegetarians or even weight loss, it’s about taking easy steps to guard our health and be good stewards of our environment”

Meatless Monday also meets the personal and planetary health goals of Sodexo. The campaign addresses several points in Sodexo’s “Better Tomorrow” plan, including their commitments to promote varied and balanced food options, develop and promote health and wellness solutions and reduce their water and carbon usage.

Sodexo started offering Meatless Monday materials to their clients in January and will begin another round of Meatless Monday recruits in the fall, when they will officially launch the campaign for their college and school clients. The company also plans to introduce pilot programs in their senior living facilities later this year.
