Celebrate Food Day Each Week with Meatless Monday

The Eat Real Eat In- Times Square

On Monday, October 24th, individuals and organizations across the country gathered for Food Day; a celebration and rallying cry for healthy, affordable and sustainably produced food. Over 2,000 events of all shapes and sizes brought together celebrities, activists, parents, non-profits and everyone in between.
The Meatless Monday team was in attendance at the Eat Real Eat In, Food Day’s flagship event in New York City. Monday Campaigns founder Sid Lerner was invited to attend the Eat In, along with celebrity chefs Ellie Krieger and Mario Batali, film maker Morgan Spurlock (Supersize Me) and dozens of local food activists. We set up a booth right near the main event in Times Square so passers by could learn about the health and environmental benefits of cutting back and snag some free materials.
After the Eat Real Eat In the team moved uptown to Eat NYC; a family-friendly fundraiser for wellness in NYC schools. Dozens of sustainable restaurants were in attendance to offer parents and kids a taste of their best dishes. The long list of eateries included Meatless Monday supporter Candle 79, who shared samples of their delicious vegan rice pudding!

Our stickers and barnyard friends cut-out were a hit with the young Meatless Monday fans in attendance and parents were thrilled to see their children getting excited about eating more fruits and veggies. Overall Food Day was a fun opportunity to spread the Meatless Monday movement and meet just some of the people who are working to share healthier, more sustainable food.
