In his most recent Healthy Monday segment on Sunday Housecall with Dr. Isadore Rosenfeld, the good doctor praised Meatless Monday founder Sid Lerner for bringing the connection between meat consumption and preventable disease to the public’s attention. Further, Dr. Rosenfeld confirmed that cutting meat one day a week is an easy, effective way to make small changes for better health, saying:
“Recent scientific studies have shown that if you’re trying to lose weight, you should cut down your meat consumption. Reducing your meat consumption will cause you to lose weight, even if you don’t reduce other calories.”
The study Dr. Rosenfeld is referencing looked at the diets of hundreds of thousands of people across Europe over five years. It found that those who ate more meat gained over four pounds during the span of the study. All those pounds can add up over a lifetime, so go meatless on Monday to maintain a healthy weight!
