Eating good food and listening to great music are two of life’s simple pleasures. The blog diary Macca’s Meatless Monday, hosted on powerhouse Daily Kos, combines the two in ways as clever as they are uplifting!
Its writer, mysteriously named "beach babe in fl,’ was inspired to create the diary by former Beatle and vegetarian advocate Paul McCartney, or "Macca,’ who promotes reducing meat consumption. The idea is wonderfully simple: do some cooking, share healthy recipes and listen to great Beatles/McCartney music.
This week’s issue, "Lovely Pita’ (a riff on the Beatles track "Lovely Rita’), begins with a statement that if all Americans went meatless once a week, it would save the same CO2 emissions as 90 million airplane flights from NYC to LA. What follows are four delicious pita recipes. It culminates with two music videos: the aforementioned "Lovely Rita’ and "Maybe I’m Amazed.’
What we particularly like is how “beach babe in fl” writes simply and from the heart about issues that move her: global warming, healthy eating, frugal living and the mounting food crisis. She links her personal passion to something global, a music that transcends all barriers, that uplifts as you listen. Her lively and robust comment section attests to this combination’s appeal.
“Maybe I’m Amazed” at all you can do with a pita, she writes. Well, we’re amazed at how week in and week out she continues to remind us that even during these hard times, there’s so much that’s good (and healthy) in the world.
