There are over 500 restaurants nationwide that go meatless on Monday from Mario Batali’s restaurants to Moe’s Southwest Grill, but did you know this trend is quickly taking to the streets? Food trucks across the country are joining the movement, each offering its own unique meatless fare.
Two of the latest food trucks to support the movement are Cravings and Homage Street Food. Located in Tallahassee, Florida, the founders of Cravings wanted to create a classic comfort food menu with a gourmet twist. Their meatless offerings include black bean burgers with a side of sweet potato fries (and organic popsicles for dessert). Homage is a world away in Chicago, recreating traditional street foods from around the globe. Though they’re new to the scene, Homage already deserves tribute with an eclectic mix of dishes like Indian samosas, Asian satay and Korean Tteokbokki.
Though more mobiles are starting to join the movement, Meatless Mondays have long been a trend in the food truck industry. Mobile Cuisine Magazine first reported on the popularity of the campaign in November of 2010. Since then founder Richard Myrick has continued to spread the word by profiling Meatless Monday-friendly trucks and offering tips on getting healthy, meatless meals to go.
