Monday Campaigns Awarded for Promoting Public Health

On Monday, November 7th, 2011 the Public Health Association of New York City hosted their annual award ceremony. Monday Campaigns founder Sid Lerner was awarded the 2011 Special Merit Award for his long-term effort to develop creative marketing strategies that promote public health.

The Public Health Association of New York City (PHANYC), has supported community health promotion for 75 years. Since 1936, they have worked with health and clinical professionals, policy advocates, researchers, faculty and students to create effective public health programs. Their annual ceremony awarded various merits to those who played a major role in health promotion across New York City.

Monday Campaigns founder Sid Lerner was awarded the Special Merit Award for “his creative marketing and advertising strategies that promote health behaviors that help end preventable chronic diseases.” Starting with Meatless Monday in 2003, Lerner has used his extensive background in advertising, promotion and marketing to create a suite of public health campaigns. The Kids Cook Monday, Move-it Monday and Caregiver’s Monday are but a few of his initiatives that set a weekly reminder to engage in healthier behaviors.

In the award address, PHANYC praised Lerner’s dedication to the field of public health. They also acknowledged the ability of The Monday Campaigns to create effective weekly health reminders and encouraged the Monday Campaigns to continue its good work.
